What is the school’s attendance policy?

Regular school attendance is essential for the student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials. We ask that students and parents make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. If your child must miss school, we ask that he or she bring a note, signed by the parent, explaining the reason for the absence when the child returns to school.

My child has a doctor’s appointment during the school day. Does he or she need a note?

Because class time is important, please schedule doctor’s appointments at times when the student will not miss instructional time. Students who need to leave school during the day must bring a note from their parent, and follow the campus sign-out procedures before leaving campus.

Will the school allow my child to bring a cell phone to school?

We do not allow students to have pagers, radios, CD players, MP3 players, video or audio recorders, DVD players, cameras, electronic devices or games, or telecommunication devices with text messaging at school. The teachers will collect these items and turn them in to the principal’s office.

Does the school have a dress code?

We established our dress code to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided they comply with the following:

  • present a clean and well-groomed appearance
  • do not wear hats, caps, headwear, or sunglasses in any school building
  • keep hair natural in color and style, with a clean, neat appearance
  • wear shoes at all times (we do not allow slippers or shoes with wheels)
  • wear shirts that are modest and cover midriff (we do not allow strapless/backless clothing, spaghetti-straps, or shirts with revealing necklines)
  • avoid clothing with pictures, emblems, or symbols that are suggestive, lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, or depict violence, advertise tobacco, alcohol products, or drugs
  • wear clothing that covers all body parts when sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or raising hands above head
  • avoid ripped jeans or pants with holes
  • do not have any piercings in tongue, eyebrow, or belly button

Can my child take his or her medication at school?

Only authorized employees may administer medication to students. Parents must provide all prescription or over-the-counter medication in the original container that has proper dosing instructions. Parents must provide a written request for us to administer medication to their child. For more details about our policy, visit our Immunization and Health page. We do not allow students to carry medication of any kind with them at any time.
