Update: District internet is working!

Due to a Central NM Electric Coop power outage, the internet is down district wide. We will notify you when it is back up.

I would like to give a big shout out to Edgewood Chief of Police Sanchez for the professional and timely communication during the police activity in the area today. The safety of our students and community is both our priority!

The internet is back up across the district! All platforms are working.
Have a great day!

The internet is down at all MESD buildings causing interruptions in Schoology, PowerSchool, and email. Google meets are working for class sessions. If your student is having issues completing assignments, please have them try to connect throughout the day . Thank you!

Due to the extreme temperatures forecasted tomorrow and poor road conditions on side roads, Friday, February 4th, 2022 will be a remote learning day for all students, PreK-12th grade. Principals will be sending a follow up message with information on class schedules later today. Students should check their Schoology accounts for directions/links for virtual meetings. Stay warm!

We are happy to announce that COVID case counts have dropped significantly at MHS and starting Saturday, Feb. 5th spectators will be welcomed back to the gym. Please wear your mask correctly so we can continue cheering on our athletes.

Forecast call for continued snowfall through the early morning hours with freezing temperatures and wind. MESD classes for all PreK-12 will be cancelled on Thursday Feb 3rd. This will also allow maintenance and custodial staff to clear parking lots and sidewalks safely.
If your child has a virtual parent meeting scheduled they will still be taking place.

Due to the extreme weather forecasted tomorrow, February 2, 2022 will be a snow day for all students, PreK-12th grade. There is a potential for internet outages due to the amount of snow, wind, and freezing temperatures, so there will be no remote learning. Have fun and stay warm!

It is time for K-8th grade ELA curriculum adoption! The MESD ELA Adoption Team would like to invite you to sample the materials that will be selected from! Please stop by during the times listed in the flyer!

MESD is excited to welcome all secondary students (MHS, EMS, MMS) back to in-person learning on campus Monday, January 31st. Elementary after-school programs will also resume in-person on Monday.
Beginning next week, 1/31/2022 all athletes (grades 6th-12th) will be allowed up to four spectators at each home game.
Thank you for your continued support!

Every household will be eligible for 4 free Rapid COVID test kits. Households with the 87035 zip code can pre-order today due to the high case count and all other zip codes can order starting tomorrow. They will take 7-12 days to ship.
TWO WAYS TO ORDER TODAY:
VIA NACHW Website: www.nachw.org/covidtests
Via CDC call center: 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489)

The PED has recommended that all schools move to their enhanced covid plans, which includes suspension of spectators at all extracurricular activities. This will begin immediately and will be reevaluated on January 31, 2022.

MESD has been participating in the Test to Stay program, however, with the increase of Covid-19 cases in the community, access to tests is becoming very limited. Due to the lack of Covid-19 testing kits, MESD will pause the student Test to Stay program until more tests are received. This means that if your child is identified as a close contact while the program is on pause, your student will have to quarantine for 5 days and participate in remote learning. MESD has placed multiple orders and is working hard to secure tests for students. Once tests become available, we will immediately resume the Test to Stay program, as our goal is to keep students in school and learning.

The New Mexico Public Education Department released an updated Covid-19 tool-kit today. Updates in this toolkit include the transition from 10 days of quarantine to 5 days of quarantine for positive individuals, as well as for unvaccinated close contacts. The quarantine period for live-in contacts is now 10 days for the unvaccinated. The new definition of “fully vaccinated” is:
18 years and older: Up to date with Covd-19 vaccination, including booster
Under 18 years old: Two weeks after completing both Pfizer doses
MESD will begin implementing the reduced quarantine periods on Thursday, January 13th. Students currently quarantined will be required to complete their original quarantine time.
